Hi All,

I've been looking for a project car and I MAY have stumbled across a fairly incredible "barn" find. I've driven by it, parked next to a fence and rotting away, about two dozen times, and finally decided to knock on the door today. To my surprise it wasn't an e29 or e30 but an e24 635 CSi. In my understanding this means that it was made for the European or Asian markets, as north american versions were just badged M6. Is that accurate? The owner says he may be willing to let it go, but he didn't give a price.
A little about the car:
- The engine starts but runs rough, per the owner. He blamed it on a leaky vacuum hose.
- There is obvious, extensive body panel rust. Haven't seen the undercarriage but the car has lived in NH for a while so it can't be great.
- It has a swapped manual transmission, done by a shop
- He says the shop also installed forged pistons
- It has aftermarket wheels, but I'm betting he kept the stock wheels around
- It looks like it has an aftermarket exhaust
- He says it has been tuned to ~280 crank horsepower
- He used to track the car
- It has been sitting for at least 4 years
- The interior is OK but the seats are in rough shape. It was obviously a driver's car.

I haven't gotten hands on the car yet, so no idea if it has compression, runs, drives, anything. From everything I've read, the 635CSi is an incredible, unique offering and could make an amazing project car. Does anyone have experience with these? I have no idea what parts availability is or what current market price would be for a modified version. Any idea what a fair offer would be?

Scott
